Battle Droids join the ranks of AMC’s Mobile Infantry Units in Combat Operations on the planet Carlac in the Prefsbelt Sector

Combat operations on the dangerously hot and arid desert world of Carlac has led AMC High Command to shift some of the longer patrols and more extensive campaigns against hostile forces on that planet to Mechanized Droid Units as the droids are immune to the ill effects of the planet’s harsh environment. While Mechanized Mobile Infantry Units are never expected to take the place of AMC’s battle hardened and highly skilled Consortium Legionnaires and Melee Fusiliers who make up the ranks of AMC’s Mobile Infantry Legions, they are expected to supplement those forces on certain combat missions and long range assignments.
The Battle of Carlac was the first large scale effort to incorporate the three main classes of AMC’s Battle Droid types with standing Mobile Infantry Units and reports from most Legionnaire Commanders noted that the Droids functioned above expectations in all facets of the deployment. Smaller scale engagements had previously taken place in combat operations on Derra IV and on Serroco and the Droid Units were universally praised for excellence in the field at that time. This gave AMC High Command the confidence to push those programs forward and to implement these much larger scale operations now taking place in the Carlac Campaign – operations that by all accounts have thus far proven successful.
All of AMC’s three main Battle Droid types are variations of those found in numerous Military Groups, Factions, and Governments across the Galaxy, however, as always, AMC’s highly trained and innovative Corps of Engineers in the Mechanized Infantry Division have worked tirelessly to add improvements to the hardware and chasses of all three main droid types.
The most basic of the three is the Spartan-Class Battle Droid.
AMC Spartan-Class Battle Droids
The Spartan is an improvement on the standard Battle Droid found extensively in Droid Armies across the Galaxy. The AMC variant, however, has an upgraded targeting computer and a much enhanced and highly classified evasion software package which makes these droids much more accurate when acquiring targets and much faster and more nimble than their traditionally clumsy, slow and bumbling counterparts across the Galaxy. They also have an upgraded artificial intelligence package that allows them to act more autonomously within the confines of a given set of orders and mission directive.
Mass deployment is still the rule of thumb with most droid units so sheer weight of numbers is still this droid’s best attribute, however, the upgrades give these droids a much better chance of proving successful in a campaign regardless of deployment strength. Because of this, smaller Mechanized Recon Units have been deployed across the surface of Carlac to scout ahead on fast moving Single Troop Aerial Platforms (STAPs) with good results. These Units can locate and pin down potential threats and act as skirmishers while calling in support from the main Legion assigned to that designated section of the planet.

The next class of AMC’s Battle Droids provides even more advanced capabilities than its smaller counterpart. The Gladiator is a larger and “smarter” droid with the most advanced A-I package in AMC’s arsenal. The trade-off, however, is that brains had to be traded for battlefield brawn as the Gladiator has slightly less shield capability than the smaller, faster Spartan. It more than makes up for this with a highly advanced optics and targeting system as well as a tactical acumen that far exceeds that of all other battle droids on the field.

These upgrades to the standard T-series design have allowed the Gladiator to dominate the battlefield. This was proven time and time again in the Carlac Campaign as waves of these powerful droids swept across the planet and cleared all opposition in their path. Senior Legionnaire Mobile Infantry Commanders had nothing but praise for how well these Droid Units were integrated into standing Legionnaire Units and also in how they responded on their own on designated missions.
The third Battle Droid design currently in use in AMC’s Mechanized Mobile Infantry is the Paladin-Class Destroyer Droid. These droids are basically mobile gun platforms and they act as anti-personnel heavy artillery units on the battlefield. Their advanced shield systems allows them to sustain multiple direct hits without taking damage to their hardware while laying down a withering fire from their dual rapid fire medium cannons.

Improvements to AMC’s variant include a more advanced Gryo-Rotor System which makes the Paladin faster than the standard Destroyer Droid when travelling in its Roller configuration. It also has a better targeting system then most variants in the Galaxy. Advancements were purposely not made to its A-I Systems as there were concerns about improving the cognitive abilities of such a powerful weapons system. At this time, the Paladin is tasked with acting on direct orders from biologic sentients in the form of AMC Legionnaire and Fusilier Commanders. Paladin-Class Destroyers will therefore always be found supporting the ranks of the regular Mobile Infantry and will not be deployed with Mechanized Mobile Infantry detachments operating without a sentient Commander.
The lessons being learned on Carlac will prove useful in the advancement of joint operations across the Galaxy as AMC integrates more and more Droids into their fighting forces.
